Black & White Challenge #4: Glam or Cute

TGIS!  (We all know Saturday's better than Friday).  What are you all doing with your weekend?  I was going to wander in to town today and pick up a few things for my fiance's birthday, but I'm feeling nice and chilled out in the flat, so I'm going to be lazy and put it off until tomorrow instead!  So today I'm just going to paint my nails, read a bit...maybe clean, if I get really desperate.

Anyhoo, on with the nails!  Day 4 of the Black and White Nail Art Challenge was glam or cute.  My initial idea for this was to have black nails, with blinged up white accent nails.  I was also planning on sticking a bow on somewhere, but when I went to do that last night it turned out my bows were pink not white...whoops!

Anyhoo, it ended up being totally different to what I started off intending.  And I don't really like it, but there we go!  I'm already days behind, no time for redoing manicures lol.

I used Barry M Matt White on all my nails, then I added Barry M Hologram to my thumb and ring finger, and added a Born Pretty Store pearl heart (because these were white!).  On my other nails, I added a coat of Barry M Black Multi Glitter, and removed with cling film.

Two more to go!  Hopefully I should have all the manicures posted this weekend!  Then maybe I should give up on challenges for a bit...

Hearts and Bows

Happy Saturday everyone!  I hope you're all enjoying your weekend so far.

I have another product from Born Pretty Store to show you today.  If you haven't visited the site before, Born Pretty Store has loads of nail art supplies, which are very reasonably priced and, in my experience thus far, great quality.

So the product I have to show you today are these pearl nail art decorations.  They come in a nice little case (with less potential for mess than the ones with the top that turns).

There are six different shapes, including hearts, bows and good old round pearls.  These are quite large though, and they do all have flat backs (beware curvy girls!).

This is the first look I created, using the white heart decoration.  I just want to make it clear that the pearls on my ring and little fingers are not the pearls from this set, these are smaller ones from a previous wheel I purchased.

I had a good old Barry M fest, using Berry Ice Cream, Lemon Ice Cream, Blueberry Ice Cream, Peach Melba and Mint Green.  I added the stripes with a nail art pen and stuck on all my pearly bits with top coat.

As you can see, the heart is quite large and sticks up from my nail.  If you were wanting to wear it for a bit longer then sticking it on with nail glue would probably make it more secure (I can't use my nail glue because I used it once and now the lid's stuck...are they supposed to be single use or have I done something silly??).

A slightly different look here.  Obviously not particularly practical due to the size of the bow, but I think this would be cute for a night out or something (just think how cute your nails would look holding a little clutch bag lol).  Oh and this is Barry M Black by the way.

Here's a side shot to give you an idea of how much they stick out.

So, unfortunately, another product that's too big and flat to be practical to use on your nails.  However, I do think you can make some cute looks with these just for one night or something, if you can put up with the stickyoutness for a few hours.  I should add that there are plenty of each shape as well - about 20 of each.

If you like the look of these, you can see them on the Born Pretty website here.  They retail for $4.52 (£2.95) and shipping is free wherever you are in the world.

Don't forget, if you do decide to purchase these, or anything else, you can use the code LKL91 for 10% off.  Happy shopping!

31 Day Challenge - Day 22: Inspired by a Song

Right, I shall make my excuses first, and then I shall show you my nails.  This was supposed to be posted on Monday, and I actually did them on Saturday so that I was all ready and prepared to post on time for a change.  Monday I ended up going into London to meet some friends and family, so I didn't get a chance to post, and subsequently yesterday I was too hung over too function, and looking at a computer screen for long enough to write a post was well beyond my capabilities.  I hate alcohol.

But anyway, today I am hangover free and feeling good about the world again, so here are my day 22 nails!

The song I chose as my inspiration was The Girl by City and Colour (I'll post the video at the bottom of this post).

For the sky I used 2True No. 49 with a little bit of Barry M Berry Ice Cream sponged on just above the horizon.  The sea was made up of 17 Seabreeze sponged with OPI Mermaid's Tears, and the ship was painted using Barry M Grey.  Then I added some gems and pearls to represent the diamond rings and delicate strings of pearls he sings about.

Here's the video for those of you who aren't familiar with the song (I hope this is the video anyway, I can't actually watch it because I'm still using the dongle...so apologies if it's something else entirely!).

Next up in the challenge, which I will hopefully post tomorrow, is inspired by a film.  I'm thinking Lion King...

31 Day Challenge and Pink Friday Mash Up

Now don't be alarmed...but yes, this is a 31 day challenge manicure being posted on the right day.  I know.

Conveniently, on the only day that the 31DC coincides with Pink Fridays, the challenge prompt is 'Insired by a Colour'.  Convenient.  So obviously I chose pink!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  I'm sure if you follow nail blogs, you'll have seen that loads and loads of bloggers have gotten involved in a challenge of some sort or have been posting pink manicures. I've chosen to participate in Pink Fridays, an event organised by Breast Cancer Care.  Breast Cancer Care is a charity that provides support to people diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as lots of information about checking your breasts, diagnosis and treatment.  You can find out more on their website here, where you can also find information about hosting a Pink Fridays fundraising event.

So here's my pink manicure for this week!  I decided to go for something simple but pretty :)

I used Barry M Bright Pink and Matt White, then added a coat of OPI I Juggle...Men, which you can just about make out on my index and middle fingers (bad lighting, sorry!).

Have a ganders at what colours inspired all the other participants today:
