Dancing on the Seabreeze

I had a study day yesterday, so naturally I went into town and bought some nail polish.  Not that many...I just picked up a few in the 'buy 1 get one 1/2 price' in Boots.  Amongst my haul was Models Own Dancing Queen from the Mirrorball collection.

I know some people have been disappointed with this collection, but when I saw it sitting there in the shop in all its sparkly goodness, with it's shiny lid, I thought I couldn't possibly be disappointed!  Well...erm...I was.

Here's two coats of Models Own Dancing Queen over 17 Seabreeze.  In theory (and in the bottle) it's beautiful.  It's made up of small and large gold, green, light blue and dark blue hex glitter, with silver and light blue shards as well.

It didn't blow me away, but maybe that's down to the colour I chose to layer it over, so I shall have to try it over some darker colours I think.  Application was a bit of a pain - the glitter all clumped together, and when I tried to spread it out I ended up taking it all off my nail!  Argh!  So I went for the old dabby dab dab.

Have any of you tried any polishes from the Mirrorball collection?  What did you think?  And any suggestions of colours I should try layering this over?

31 Day Challenge - Day 25: Inspired by Fashion

I am back on it with the 31 day challenge!  Boom!  I am also slightly tipsy, but there we go.  Shizzle happens.

Today's challenge prompt is inspired by fashion.  I'm not particularly interested in fashion (as is presumably evident to anyone who's seen me).  I wear clothes like, because you have to don't you, but that's about as far as our relationship goes.  But I had a little Google, and I found a dress that I thought would translate nicely into a manicure.

Here's the dress:

And here are the nails.

Glequins would have been perfect for this!  I don't have any though, so I just went for dots of Max Factor Bright Orange over a base of OPI Skull and Glossbones, with tips of 17 Seabreeze.

I had a bit of a manicure session this morning, so I'll be posting daily to get back up to date!

Halloween: Witch

Most imaginative post name ever, I know.  Nothing else was coming to me.  And anyhoo, it is a witch, so it says all it needs to say lol.

I plan to have a few Halloween posts for you over the next few days, in the run up to Halloween. Tonight I have my first one for you :)

This was taken with the flash (my trees didn't show up in the pictures otherwise), so apologies for the yucky shadows.

Right, I used quite a few polishes here, and lots of bits of sponge.  The sky is OPI Roadhouse Blues, Barry M Black and 17 Seabreeze.  The moon is Barry M Matt White, and there's also a little Barry M Lemon Ice Cream in there, and all the detail is done with Barry M Black.

I'm travelling up to Liverpool this weekend for a Halloween party with the boyfriend's family :)  What are your plans?

31 Day Challenge - Day 22: Inspired by a Song

Right, I shall make my excuses first, and then I shall show you my nails.  This was supposed to be posted on Monday, and I actually did them on Saturday so that I was all ready and prepared to post on time for a change.  Monday I ended up going into London to meet some friends and family, so I didn't get a chance to post, and subsequently yesterday I was too hung over too function, and looking at a computer screen for long enough to write a post was well beyond my capabilities.  I hate alcohol.

But anyway, today I am hangover free and feeling good about the world again, so here are my day 22 nails!

The song I chose as my inspiration was The Girl by City and Colour (I'll post the video at the bottom of this post).

For the sky I used 2True No. 49 with a little bit of Barry M Berry Ice Cream sponged on just above the horizon.  The sea was made up of 17 Seabreeze sponged with OPI Mermaid's Tears, and the ship was painted using Barry M Grey.  Then I added some gems and pearls to represent the diamond rings and delicate strings of pearls he sings about.

Here's the video for those of you who aren't familiar with the song (I hope this is the video anyway, I can't actually watch it because I'm still using the dongle...so apologies if it's something else entirely!).

Next up in the challenge, which I will hopefully post tomorrow, is inspired by a film.  I'm thinking Lion King...

31 Day Challenge - Day 16: Tribal Print

And I'm back up to date!

I've just had a bit of a mani-a-thon (the boyfriend's got the xbox to entertain him) so you'll have some more consistent posting for the next week at least!

Today's challenge prompt was tribal print.  This isn't something I've tried before, but I love some of the tribal manicures I've seen that people have come up with.  So here's my attempt:

After much indecision, I decided to use China Glaze Desert Sun, OPI Who The Shrek Are You and 17 Seabreeze.  Then I just went to town with a Sharpie.  I really like how my ring finger looks, but maybe it's just because it's so simple next to all the busy nails.  What do you think?  And by the way, that's supposed to be triangles on my middle finger, not a radiation symbol...

Next up in the challenge is glitter.  I'm getting out my PVA glue as I type!

Glitter Skittles

Ok, I'm totally abusing the word skittles here...but I didn't know what else to call them.  I mentioned yesterday that I did a mani this weekend that I didn't want to take off, and here it is!

I've included two seemingly identical pictures to hopefully show the glitter as best I can - on the left in in natural light, and the right is with a flash.  This glitter is from Claire's, but I can't find a name (or even a number!) on the poor thing.  As embarrassing as it potentially is walking into Claire's as a 23 year old woman, they do have some super pretty glitter polishes.  And this was only £2.50.  Happy Sam :D

It's made up of gold, pink and green hexes, all quite muted tones, and there's also very fine silver glitter (I think it's silver...it looks gold in that photo though..hmm) which you can see on my thumb nail.  The bottle is chocka with glitter, so I was rather surprised when this went on so sparsely.  Since I wanted a full on glitter bomb, I went for dabbing it on, and this is about four coats of that.  It's still very pretty when it's sparse, but it's not what I wanted for this look :)

I was all adventurous and used a couple of other polishes that I don't really use - George Gnome and 17 Forever.

This is such a simple manicure, but I think it's so pretty.  For anyone who's fairly new to nails, you should give something like this a go.  Sometimes it's about having the confidence to wear a random colour on a couple of nails rather than doing something really intricate and complicated :)

31 Day Challenge - Day 3: Yellow

Happy Sunday!  Today is day 3 in the 31 day challenge,  and the theme is yellooooow.  Fortunately, I did these nails a few days in advance, so I'm still happily sporting my holographic polish.

I did these nails initially trying to replace what has been missing in my life this summer...

He's got his hat on as well, you just can't see it.  The sun's actually out today though, woohooo!  I don't remember what to do with sun though...do I go sit in it?

I used Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream and Lemon Ice Cream (mmm...ice cream), Max Factor Bright Orange and 17 Nightshade.  Oh, there's also a layer of Barry M Matt White underneath it all (yellow polish isn't allowed near my actual nail surface since...an incident).

Next up is green nails on Wednesday.

Take a look at all the other yellow manicures today :)

My Favourite Things: Favourite Animal

I totally forgot today was Tuesday.  To the extent that I saw people had posted their challenge manicures and I was thinking 'why are they posting a day early..?'.  Never mind, I've had a cup of coffee now and I'm fully aware of what day it is, so here's my post!

I'm a very indecisive person.  I genuinely cannot choose a favourite animal (or colour, polish, food...).  When I was first starting this challenge, I asked my boyfriend what my favourite animal is.  He suggested a tiger.  I do love tigers...having a pet tiger would be AMAZING, but people tell me I can't.

LOOK AT IT!!!  Awwwwwwwww.

Anyway, I didn't actually go with tigers in the end, so no more baby tiger pictures.  I actually decided to do a mani inspired my dog - technically my favourite animal ever :D

I sponged on some Bailey-type colours; I used Barry M Matt White and Gold Foil, OPI Over The Taupe and 17 Nightshade.  Then I added some little doggy paw prints with a dotting tool.

And here's my inspiration :)

Here's the schedule for the rest of the challenge.  The next post will be favourite food on Thursday - still no idea what I'm going to do for this, I love all food!

First Water Marble

I have for you today a little nail fail to start the week.

I finally got round to trying out water marbling with, er, interesting results.  I shall let the photo do the talking.

I used a base of Barry M Matte White, then for the marbling I used 17 Nightshade, Barry M Grey and Collection 2000 Star Dust.

Guess which nail was my first attempt...  I'm quite pleased with my index finger though!  And I quite like my little finger, even if it is wobblier than was intended.  As for the mess on my hands, that's because I decided to ignore the countless blogs I've read that said to tape or vaseline your fingers to make clean up easier.  I am a fool.

Are you a fan of water marbling?  Have you had more success than me with this technique?

I'll have two posts for you tomorrow - the first of the My Favourite Things challenge hosted by Kelly at Ooh La La Polish! and my favourite Teal Tuesday manicure so far!

I was trying to work out how to add a suggestions box to this blog, but that was another fail.  I'd still love some suggestions for what nail art I should try though, so if you've got any ideas then post a comment on here or on my Facebook page :)  It'd be great to get a regular feature going of readers' suggestions.

Polish Days: Olympics

Today I'm taking part in Polish Days for the first time.  This month, the theme is Olympics!

Obviously I'm loving all things Olympics at the moment, so what a perfect theme :)

I'm sure you've all noticed that we British have a pretty epic cycling team.  The track cycling is one of my favourite events to watch in the games as well - I like to think because it's fast-paced and exciting, but it's probably more to do with the fact I like watching us win lots of medals.  So anyhoo, for these reasons, I decided to have a go at some velodrome nails.

There's Team GB out for a little cycle.  Probably winning a gold medal.  For the track I used China Glaze Kalahari Kiss.  The light blue is Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream and the darker one is 17 Seabreeze.  If you want to know what any of the other colours are just ask in the comments :)
