31 Day Challenge - Day 26: Inspired by a Pattern

Happy Monday!

I have another 31 Day Challenge manicure for you today (still playing catch up!).  The prompt for day 26 is inspired by a pattern.  I decided to relive memories of St David's Day and go for a paisley pattern.

Reminds me of being a kid and looking simply fabulous in this get up:

I had a paisley shawl of course, like the woman at the back.

Anyhoo, I used Kleancolor Metallic Red and a white nail art pen.  I bought the red a little while ago when I was buying a few Kleancolor glitters, just because I was curious about how their coloured polishes were.  I have to say, I am suitably impressed.  I only used one coat here, and it's such a rich and shimmery colour.  It'll be perfect for some Christmas manicures!

31 Day Challenge - Day 25: Inspired by Fashion

I am back on it with the 31 day challenge!  Boom!  I am also slightly tipsy, but there we go.  Shizzle happens.

Today's challenge prompt is inspired by fashion.  I'm not particularly interested in fashion (as is presumably evident to anyone who's seen me).  I wear clothes like, because you have to don't you, but that's about as far as our relationship goes.  But I had a little Google, and I found a dress that I thought would translate nicely into a manicure.

Here's the dress:

And here are the nails.

Glequins would have been perfect for this!  I don't have any though, so I just went for dots of Max Factor Bright Orange over a base of OPI Skull and Glossbones, with tips of 17 Seabreeze.

I had a bit of a manicure session this morning, so I'll be posting daily to get back up to date!

Lady Flowers

Teehee.

A little while ago I won a giveaway hosted by Rebecca at Polish Etc.  The prize was two A-England polishes  of my choice - I hadn't tried any before but I had been lusting after some, so I was very excited!  After much deliberation, I chose Lady of the Lake and Saint George.  Today I'm showing you Lady of the Lake, and I shall show you Saint George in another post.

A-England Lady of the Lake is a beautiful purple holographic polish.  It applied beautifully, and was so pretty it distracted me in all my lectures while I was wearing it (although I'll be honest, that's not a difficult task...).  I added some flowers using Barry M Matt White and Lemon Ice Cream.  I was a bit lazy with my flowers - I just painted a star and added a dot, so they're not as good as they could've been.  But the purple's pretty, so I don't care.

Here's a picture in artificial light (my boyfriend told me off for standing on the sofa to get closer to the light...) so you can see the holographic goodness a little better.  Pretty...

So thank you again Rebecca!  Do check out her blog Polish Etc - she's got some beautiful swatches that she's posted recently!

Christmas Challenge

Ok, since it's now November it's totally reasonable to start planning for a Christmas challenge!  I decided to come up with a little one, with manicures all based on the titles of some Christmas songs (I make fantastic use of my time in lectures).

Here's the challenge:

They're all pretty open to interpretation, although my vague ideas were Christmas trees, snow, decorations or holly, Father Christmas and then freestyle for the last manicure.  My plan was to do a manicure every Monday, plus an extra one on Christmas Eve, but I'm open to suggestions :)

It's only a short one because, as I think I've demonstrated, I'm not very good at keeping up with longer challenges!

If you'd like to join in, either leave a comment or email me at polishedart@hotmail.co.uk with your email address and blog address.

31 Day Challenge - Day 24: Inspired by a Book

I'm finally back with another 31 Day Challenge post!  The next challenge I do, I'll be better I promise.  Apparently 3 months of being organised was too much for me!

Oh, another thing to mention.  I recently went through all my polishes and put all the ones I haven't tried into a bag.  The bag ended up pretty full...  So, by the end of November I want to try them all!  Each manicure I post in November, I will list which untried polish I've used, and hopefully I'll get through them all.

The challenge prompt for day 24 of the challenge is inspired by a book.  I have a few books piled up under my TV, and The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene has been looking at me for a few days, and I thought the cover might translate into a nice manicure.

This is the cover.  You will indeed find it looks nothing like my manicure.
Ok, so here are the nails.

This is a rubbish photo, sorry.  I blame the cooold daaark nights.  Anyhoo, I used Barry M Vivid Purple, which is super super pretty.  I almost didn't want to cover it up, but then I thought 'yeah right, as if I'm actually going to be caught dead going out with plain nails'.  Silliness.  Then I used OPI Stranger Tides and squiggled with a white nail art pen.

Erm...I really don't like them.  They were so pretty in my head.  I should've just cut out nail shaped pieces from the cover instead and stuck them on :p  I think maybe I'd prefer them if I'd used a different purple - one with a creme finish like Stranger Tides.  What do you think?

Also, I think Vivid Purple is quite similar to OPI Grape...Set...Match, so I might do a comparison post, if that's something people would be interested in seeing?
