31 Day Challenge - Day 31: Recreate Your Favourite Challenge

Sorry for doing a bit of a disappearing act there!

Today I have my final manicure for the 31 Day Challenge.  It seems quite fitting that I'm posting this late, considering how many times I got behind during the challenge!  It's a good job I didn't attempt to do it in 31 days really...I'd probably still be finishing it now.

So anyway, I decided to base today's manicure on one created by Kimber, our lovely challenge organiser, for Day 13: Animal Print.  I was initially going to do a cat, as in Kimber's mani, but after painting my base colour, I decided to go with a dog instead.  And then I wished I'd chosen a brighter colour for my base...presumably because I think dogs are more fun than cats??

I used NYC Central Park for the base colour, and then added my dog and paw prints using Barry M Matt White and Black.

And here's a bonus picture of my dog!

If you want to take a look back through all 31 manicures, you can see them in the Challenges tab at the top of the page.

31 Day Challenge - Day 30: Inspired by a Tutorial

Hello lovelies, just a quick post as it's well past my bed time!  Technically I cheated on this particular challenge manicure - this wasn't inspired by a tutorial, it was inspired by these jigsaw nails at Never Mind Suzi.  But people said she should do a tutorial for them, so it totally counts.

And here is my attempt at jigsaw nails!

I used Barry M Black, GOSH Holographic Hero, Star Gazer 232 and Orly Steel Your Heart (which I won in a giveaway from Marisa at Polish Obsession - thank you again!).

What do you think of these jigsaw nails - is it something you'd wear?

Have a look at all the other tutorial-inspired manicures produced by the challenge participants today.  Only one more manicure left!

31 Day Challenge Nail Fail

Okay, well I suppose it's more of a photo fail than a nail fail.

Today's challenge prompt was 'inspired by the supernatural'.  I struggled a bit with inspiration for this one, but finally I decided on some spoooooky eyes.

I painted my nails just plain for this one, then added some eyes using BYS Glow In The Dark, and dotted on some pupils in Barry M Black.

Unfortunately, after much playing with the settings on my camera, this is the best photo I could get.

Photo fail indeed.  Oh well, you get the idea!

Only two more challenge days left!  Inspired by a tutorial, and then a re-creation of one of our favourite manicures from the challenge :)

31 Day Challenge - Day 27: Inspired by Artwork

A little while ago, before I started blogging, I posted a manicure on Facebook.  One of my friends commented that I was "getting quite Piet Mondrian", so he seemed as good an artist as any to inspire today's manicure.

This is what I based my manicure on:

And here are the nails!

I was really really pleased with these, but then my topcoat smudged them - argh!

I used a base of Barry M Matt White, added blocks of colour in OPI Cherry Chick Flick, China Glaze Man Hunt and Rimmel Sunshine, before painting on the black lines with a nail art pen.

Have you ever done a manicure inspired by artwork?  Where do you normally get your inspiration from?

31 Day Challenge - Day 26: Inspired by a Pattern

Happy Monday!

I have another 31 Day Challenge manicure for you today (still playing catch up!).  The prompt for day 26 is inspired by a pattern.  I decided to relive memories of St David's Day and go for a paisley pattern.

Reminds me of being a kid and looking simply fabulous in this get up:

I had a paisley shawl of course, like the woman at the back.

Anyhoo, I used Kleancolor Metallic Red and a white nail art pen.  I bought the red a little while ago when I was buying a few Kleancolor glitters, just because I was curious about how their coloured polishes were.  I have to say, I am suitably impressed.  I only used one coat here, and it's such a rich and shimmery colour.  It'll be perfect for some Christmas manicures!

31 Day Challenge - Day 25: Inspired by Fashion

I am back on it with the 31 day challenge!  Boom!  I am also slightly tipsy, but there we go.  Shizzle happens.

Today's challenge prompt is inspired by fashion.  I'm not particularly interested in fashion (as is presumably evident to anyone who's seen me).  I wear clothes like, because you have to don't you, but that's about as far as our relationship goes.  But I had a little Google, and I found a dress that I thought would translate nicely into a manicure.

Here's the dress:

And here are the nails.

Glequins would have been perfect for this!  I don't have any though, so I just went for dots of Max Factor Bright Orange over a base of OPI Skull and Glossbones, with tips of 17 Seabreeze.

I had a bit of a manicure session this morning, so I'll be posting daily to get back up to date!

31 Day Challenge - Day 24: Inspired by a Book

I'm finally back with another 31 Day Challenge post!  The next challenge I do, I'll be better I promise.  Apparently 3 months of being organised was too much for me!

Oh, another thing to mention.  I recently went through all my polishes and put all the ones I haven't tried into a bag.  The bag ended up pretty full...  So, by the end of November I want to try them all!  Each manicure I post in November, I will list which untried polish I've used, and hopefully I'll get through them all.

The challenge prompt for day 24 of the challenge is inspired by a book.  I have a few books piled up under my TV, and The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene has been looking at me for a few days, and I thought the cover might translate into a nice manicure.

This is the cover.  You will indeed find it looks nothing like my manicure.
Ok, so here are the nails.

This is a rubbish photo, sorry.  I blame the cooold daaark nights.  Anyhoo, I used Barry M Vivid Purple, which is super super pretty.  I almost didn't want to cover it up, but then I thought 'yeah right, as if I'm actually going to be caught dead going out with plain nails'.  Silliness.  Then I used OPI Stranger Tides and squiggled with a white nail art pen.

Erm...I really don't like them.  They were so pretty in my head.  I should've just cut out nail shaped pieces from the cover instead and stuck them on :p  I think maybe I'd prefer them if I'd used a different purple - one with a creme finish like Stranger Tides.  What do you think?

Also, I think Vivid Purple is quite similar to OPI Grape...Set...Match, so I might do a comparison post, if that's something people would be interested in seeing?

31 Day Challenge - Day 23: Inspired by a Film

It's the ciiiircle of liiiife!

The Lion King is my favourite film ever.  I don't care if it's aimed at 6 year olds rather than 23 year olds, I love it. It has the perfect combination of cheesy songs and cute talking animals.  What more could you want from a film?

So, naturally, there was no other sensible choice for today's challenge manicure - inspired by a film.  Although when I googled the picture I wanted to recreate for my manicure, I almost changed my mind to something easier lol.  But since I'd already posted yesterday that I was thinking about doing The Lion King (fool) I figured I should probably give it a go.

Since I'm aware it's not entirely (ahem) obvious who everyone  is, I shall interpret for you.  On the left we have Simba and Nala, on the middle finger is Rafiki and a little Zazu, and then on my ring finger is Scar.  Timon and Pumbaa should've been on my little finger, but I wasn't convinced you'd be able to tell the difference between my lions and warthogs, so I surrendered at that point.  I quite like the overall look though, even if my animal painting abilities are shocking.

I used Barry M Bright Red for the sky, and then painted on the sun with Barry M Lemon Ice Cream while the red was still wet, so that I got some orangey bits.  Then I used Barry M Black for the tips and the detail. Yet another Barry M fest.
